Pet Insurance
Pet insurance can be essential to provide the ability to cover the cost of treating your pet whether this is for ongoing medical treatment or a sudden emergency.
Costs can range from £100-£200 per month for management of ongoing conditions, £1-2000 for emergency surgery or weekend care up to £6-8000 or more for specialist care.
Pet Insurance FAQs
We do not charge for processing insurance claims although many other practices do. It does still take up a lot of staff time and represents a significant administrative burden.
We aim to get information regarding claims through to your insurance company within 1-2 weeks.
How Much Does Insurance Cost?
The cost varies with risk of costs to the insurance company. Breed, age, and other factors have an effect on the premium, as does the limit they will pay out and any agreed contributions you make towards the costs. Insurance companies also charge different premiums for similar cover.
What does it cover?
Generally it covers any medical issues up to the limit per condition or year, prior to the deduction of any excess or 'co-payment'. Most have an allowance for supplementary health care such as physiotherapy, hydrotherapy or acupuncture.
3rd party cover for your pet causing an accident or injury to another pet or person.
What might it not cover?!
Certain things are commonly excluded such as previous medical conditions (although some companies do cover this if it there hasn't been a problem for 12 months).
Dental issues will often be excluded on the less comprehensive policies.
Unvaccinated pets getting a disease that could have been prevented by vaccination.
Can my vet do a direct claim?
In most cases, you pay the veterinary practice at the time of treatment. At your request, a claim is done so you can then be reimbursed. If this is not possible please discuss it with one of the team prior to treatment.
